WooCommerce MCP server
A WooCommerce MCP server lets AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Codex work directly in your WooCommerce store: read products and orders, write copy, improve SEO or check stock. This page explains how it works, which options exist and what to look out for.
What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that AI assistants use to connect to other software. An MCP server offers tools, such as "list products" or "update a product", and the assistant decides when to call them. Because the protocol is shared, one server works with many AI clients.
What does a WooCommerce MCP server do?
It sits between the AI assistant and your store. A good one:
- turns the WooCommerce and WordPress REST APIs into clear tools the assistant can use,
- signs the assistant in with your store, without passing around API keys,
- decides which requests are allowed and blocks the rest,
- keeps a record of what the assistant did.
Which options are there?
- MCP building blocks for WordPress and WooCommerce. Developer tools you install and configure yourself, usually with a local proxy and an API key in a configuration file, and access tied to one WordPress user.
- Open-source servers you host yourself. Flexible, but you run the server, create and store WooCommerce API keys, and usually get all-or-nothing access with no log.
- Hosted servers connected with a plugin, such as MCPify. You install a plugin, approve an API key with one click, and control access per AI client in a dashboard.
What to look for
- Permissions per store area: read, change and delete set separately for products, orders, customers, coupons, pages and so on, not one switch for everything.
- Locks for sensitive actions: prices, refunds, permanent deletes and customer data should be off unless you turn them on.
- An audit log: every request, including blocked ones, with the client and the person behind it.
- Separate connections per AI client: so you can give Cursor different rules than Claude, and revoke one without touching the others.
- Standard sign-in: OAuth through your WordPress admin instead of copying API keys into config files.
MCPify does all of this, adds ready-made skills such as a catalog audit, SEO optimization and a product launch check, and has a free plan to start with. See the use cases for what store owners do with it, and how MCPify protects your store.
How to connect your store
- Install the free MCPify plugin (WordPress.org listing coming soon; until then, ask Support@MCPify.app for the plugin file) and connect it under WooCommerce › MCPify.
- Create a connection in the MCPify dashboard and choose what the assistant may do.
- Add
https://woo.getmcpify.app/mcpto your AI client and sign in through your WordPress admin.

Questions
Does WooCommerce have its own MCP server?
WordPress and WooCommerce are adding MCP building blocks for developers, which you install, configure and secure yourself. MCPify is a hosted WooCommerce MCP server: a small plugin connects your store, and you manage access in a dashboard instead of configuration files.
Is a WooCommerce MCP server free?
MCPify has a free plan with read access, so you can try it without paying. Paid plans add write access, and higher plans add skills, more connections and raw REST access. Self-hosted servers are free but need your own setup and maintenance.
Is MCP the same as the WooCommerce REST API?
No. The REST API is how apps talk to WooCommerce. MCP is how AI assistants talk to tools. A WooCommerce MCP server translates between the two and decides which REST requests an assistant may make.
Do I need to be a developer?
Not with MCPify. You install a WordPress plugin, approve an API key with one click and add one URL to your AI client. Self-hosted servers need a server or local setup, API keys in configuration files and updates.
Can the AI break my store?
Only within what you allow. Start with read-only access, keep deleting off, and lock prices, refunds and customer data. Deletes go to the trash unless you allow permanent deletes. MCPify blocks everything else and logs every attempt.
Which AI clients work?
Any client that supports remote MCP servers, such as Claude (web, desktop, mobile and Claude Code), ChatGPT, Cursor and Codex. Clients that cannot sign in can use an MCPify API key.
What can I do with a WooCommerce MCP server?
Ask questions about products, orders, stock and sales, rewrite product descriptions, improve product SEO, add alt text to images, audit your catalog and check products before launch, all from your AI client.
